Friday, August 21st, 2009

Jeff here again with great news! If you’re in Europe or plan to visit anytime soon, you’ll want to take advantage of great hotel deals in our two newest destinations – Paris and Barcelona. Our properties in Paris, including Hotel Le Patio Saint Antoine and Hotel Les Jardins Du Marais, put you minutes away from the Picasso Museum, Opera Bastille and other prized landmarks. I am really looking forward to visiting Barcelona one of these days. It, too, is steeped in history, featuring scores of museums, theaters and, for lovers of sand and surf, seven beaches! More great deals await you at Grand Hotel Central and Hotel Diagonal Zero, among other can’t-miss Barcelona properties.

Scorching End-of-Summer Hotel Deals

summer-sky2We’ve also got some great ideas on how to make the most of your remaining summer days. With August winding down, it’s that time of year again when we put away the swimsuits and send the kids off to school. There’s nothing I’ll miss more about summer than having a cold drink at poolside while soaking up some rays. Lucky for us, there’s still enough time to grab a great deal for a last-minute vacation. Whether you’re looking to sunbathe the afternoon away on a pristine beach in Miami, take the kids to Disney World for a fun-filled weekend in Orlando, or spend a few days exploring the sights and sounds of Midtown Manhattan, getaroom.com has hotel deals you’ll want to take advantage of before welcoming in the fall season.

Sizzling Deals in Sin City

I visited Las Vegas for the first time last summer, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The Las Vegas Strip features a bevy of restaurants and casinos, not to mention a pulsing nightlife scene. Of course, what better way to experience the beating pulse of Las Vegas than staying at its famed hotels? The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino has more than 4,000 all-suite accommodations and features 19 restaurants. If you’re thinking of visiting the downtown area, you’ll find 32,000 square feet of casino space and three cocktail lounges at the Four Queens Hotel and Casino. Squeeze in some time to shop at The Fremont Street Experience, which is only one block away from the California Hotel and Casino.

Great Hotel Rates in The Big Apple

It has been unusually cool this summer in New York City, making it a great destination for travelers seeking relief from the summer heat. Great rates are available at the Buckingham Hotel, a stylish boutique property set in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. After a busy day at Fifth Avenue, the Paramount Theatre, and other landmark New York attractions, Hotel Metro offers a calm respite with its library and newly redesigned rooftop terrace, from which I was able to take in great views of the Empire State Building. The renovated Belvedere Hotel, another great option in Manhattan, is conveniently within walking distance of Times Square.

Vacationing in Sunny Florida

One of the best things about living in Florida is being close its beautiful beaches and world-renowned theme parks. South Beach, with its Art Deco buildings, restaurants and nightclubs, stands out as one of my favorite hot spots. And I can’t forget the bevy of great hotels the area has to offer. The Clevelander offers 60 revamped rooms, a rooftop terrace, an Art Deco pool and even an indoor music and dance venue – the 1020 Music Boxx – for those looking to have an end-of-summer party. If you plan on vacationing in Central Florida, the Best Western Orlando Gateway and Radisson Orlando Celebration Resort are great properties in which to relax while being in close proximity to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and other main attractions. Orlando is a must visit for theme park enthusiasts. My kids and I just can’t get enough of these theme parks!

End-of-Summer Savings in Washington D.C.

With a new president in the oval office, there is no better time to tour this historic city. After checking out the Lincoln Memorial and Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, choose from a number of great properties including the Capitol Hill Suites.

Now is the time to take advantage of end-of-summer deals in these cities and many others including Los Angeles, Boston and Chicago. Call our reservation line at 800-468-3578 to receive a $25 rebate offer for bookings of two nights or more. What are you waiting for? Get a room before the summer – and these deals – melt away!

Friday, August 14th, 2009

labor-day-flag-fireworksIt’s hard to believe that we’re already in August! That means the summer is winding down and Labor Day, which lands on Monday, September 7 this year, is right around the corner. Over the past few weeks, we’ve highlighted properties in four stunning destinations – San Francisco, New York, Las Vegas and Chicago – where you can snag great Labor Day deals and make the most of your vacation with friends and family. In fact, feel free to visit our Labor Day Hotel Deals page, where you can choose great Labor Day deals in these cities and many more!

I’ll be heading to Chicago this year. My kids have been dying to check out Six Flags Great America and Amazing Chicago’s Funhouse Maze. Whether you’re planning to hit the Big Apple with your partner, ride bikes with your kids along the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, or head to Las Vegas to try your hand at roulette in one of its famed casinos,  Labor Day weekend is a great time to squeeze in one last summer getaway. vacation

Everyone knows, though, that last-minute planning, traffic and other factors can make things pretty hectic. This week, we feature several tips on how to keep Labor Day fun, safe and stress-free.

Planning Makes Perfect

luggageMake sure to plan ahead and book your travel plans as far in advance as possible. Print out several copies of maps, driving directions and hotel reservations should something get misplaced. If driving, it’s best to set out for your destination early in the morning so as to avoid heavy traffic. While it’s good to pack days ahead, a last minute check of all essentials (airline tickets, money, kids’ supplies, etc.) before heading off never hurts. You’ll also want to pack smart and check the latest baggage fees for your airline, as well as ensure that your bags are under the weight limit.

Stay Safedrive

Make sure to lock all car doors and enable your alarm after getting out of your vehicle, even if only for a quick restroom stop or bite to eat. If you happen to be traveling at night, make sure to park in well-lit, concentrated areas. Try to leave showy valuables such as jewelry at home. Drive with extra caution and be mindful of reckless drivers who have had too much to drink!

Eating Tips

barbecueIt’s always a good idea to bring chips, sandwiches and other snacks with you for the road. Not only will it keep the kids happy, but your pocketbook will thank you for it later! If you’d rather eat out, be sure to research which dining options each area has to offer. And if you’re planning to stay at a relative’s house, why not consider a family barbecue? Just make sure to wash your hands with soap and water before and after handling raw foods; once the food is set on the table and ready to eat, have all bowls and dishes covered to keep the pesky bugs away.

Have Fun!

Family-friendly cruises, ballgames, and parades are only some of the many special events you can partake ifair1n this Labor Day. Washington DC plays host to a number of festivals and concerts – including Kids Day at Nationals Park and a Labor Day Concert at the U.S. Capitol – to entertain all age groups alike. If you’re traveling to New York, you can catch the Brooklyn Carnival, which has over 3 million participants on hand each year. And if you plan on visiting the Los Angeles area, check out the Orange International Street Fair.

Labor Day Deals in Chicago

Friday, August 7th, 2009

sears-tower-willis-tower1Jeff here with yet another can’t-miss holiday destination. Our Labor Day series concludes in one of my all-time favorite hot spots – The Windy City. I travel here time and time again to catch Cubs games at Wrigley Field and Bulls games at the United Center, take relaxing walkwrigley-fields at Lincoln Park, watch cool shows at the Adler Planetarium, and even gaze out at the Willis Tower which, to my surprise, is the tallest building in the United States. I’m also quite fond of animals, which is why I always frequent both the Lincoln Park and Brookfield zoos when I get the chance. No matter what, I always feel right at home in this city.

Of course, one of Chicago’s biggest draws is its hotels, and I have no complaints about any of the ones in which I’ve stayed or visited. For one, I went to Hotel SAX Chicago for a meeting and was wowed by the sheer sophistication found inside. The hotel’s guest rooms and meeting rooms are fitted with state-of-the-art technology, which is always a huge plus whether I’m vacationing or on business. Also, the Crimson Lounge is a great place to grab a cocktail and unwind in the evening, while Xbox game stations and MP3 players in The Studio make for a day of fun and play with friends.

In addition, I found the Four-Diamond Swissôtel Chicago to be a great place to catch a breather after a busy day sightseeing downtown Chicago. It is within walking distance of the city’s business, entertainment and financial districts, minutes from The Art Institute of Chicago, and within miles of the O’Hare International and Midway airports. If you’re in the mood to pamper yourself, check out the Penthouse Health Club, which simply has it all: a Jacuzzi, heated indoor pool, dry sauna, and all the exercise equipment you could ever want. And if you ever decide to hold an event or meeting in the Chicago area, keep this hotel in mind. It has 65,000 square square feet of meeting space!

Another great property to check out is Hotel 71, located on the Chicago River at Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue. Not only are the rooms huge and spacious, but they afford some of the best views imaginable of either the city itself or the Chicago River. What a nice way to forget the day’s worries! Luckily there is plenty of nightlife and several shops and restaurants in the area should you want to get out for a while.

Moreover, hotels that allow pets are a rare find nowadays, which is why I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that Wyndham Glenview Suites offers 10 pet-friendly suites. My dog, Max, will be more than pleased! This place is also chock full of amenities including shuttle service to local businesses and attractions, and two restaurants that serve mouth-watering meals. The Garden Atrium Cafe is a nice spot to start off the day while eating the hotel’s new Fields & Sun Breakfast.

Last but not least, the eco-friendly Hotel Felix is a great option for travelers seeking boutique intimacy. You’ll spot the building’s unique 1920s facade before venturing inside to find comfy rooms decorated in earth tones. There’s no doubt that everything there has been carefully designed down to the smallest detail. There are so just many areas where I can just kick back and relax with my wife and kids, including the cozy lounge and spa.

For great rates, discounts and last minute deals on these Chicago hotels and many more, look no further than getaroom.com. Call our reservation line now at 800-468-3578 and we’ll throw in a $25 rebate offer for bookings of two nights or more. We also have great deals at other major destinations including New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orlando, Miami and Washington DC. Don’t delay! Get a room now!

Although this concludes our four part series on Labor Day savings, we’ll bring you great Labor Day travel tips next week. Stay tuned!

Get a Room in Las Vegas this Labor Day and Save!

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Greetings travelers! My name is Jeff and I’ll be providing you with information on this week’s feature destination. For the third installment of our Labor Day series, we venture to Sin City – a true mecca for shopping, dining, gambling and entertainment. Attractions abound, lights shine brightly all throughout, and savings are yours for the taking in some of the finest hotels to grace the Las Vegas Strip.

At the very heart of the Strip you’ll find Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. What’s especially neat about this place is that each of its stylish rooms and suites feature actual memorabilia from renowned Hollywood films. It’s hard not to lose count of the many places where you can enjoy a delectable meal; you’ll have eight restaurants to choose from, including the famous Koi. While you’re there, feel free to rejuvenate your senses in the European spa or burn some calories in the fitness center.

Another great hotel I found was the Sahara Hotel and Casino. It is conveniently located on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, with its own monorail station just one stop from the Las Vegas Convention Center. With two state-of-the-art theaters, the popular NASCAR Café (which features an arcade and roller coaster), and more than 85,000 square feet of gaming space, you’ll never run out of things to do.

Stratosphere

If you yearn to experience Las Vegas to the fullest, the Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower is definitely worth checking out. It is within minutes of downtown Las Vegas and the Fremont Street Experience, and fewer than five miles from McCarren International Airport – a great benefit for time-pressed travelers such as myself! The 113-story Stratosphere Tower is the tallest observation tower in the U.S., so it’s no surprise that it offers panoramic views of the Strip and surrounding mountains. Whether it’s chic bars, fine restaurants, or heart-pounding rides that tickle your fancy, the property has something for everyone.

Sometimes I just want to escape from my daily worries and indulge in all the dining, shopping and entertainment I can get! The Tropicana Las Vegas, situated at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, couldn’t be any more accommodating. A landmark since its inception in 1957, the property boasts three world renowned swimming pools, three outdoor spas, and more than 1,800 hotel rooms you can choose from to relax the night away.

Moreover, I had heard that Terrible’s Hotel and Casino was considered a favorite among locals and visitors, so I decided to see it for myself. Indeed, this property is a welcome haven for vacationers looking to savor Nevada’s warm and sunny atmosphere. It couples comfortable, well-appointed guest rooms with first-rate amenities such as a swimming pool surrounded by lush landscaping, a 24 hour fitness center, and a relaxing lounge.

Great deals on these hotels and many more are just a click away at getaroom.com. You’ll be eligible to receive a $25 rebate offer for bookings of two nights or more by calling our reservation line at 800-468-3578. You can also check out deals that are just too good to miss in other major cities including New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles and Boston. Why wait? Get a room today!

In the final installment of our Labor Day series, we’ll explore fine destinations in Chicago. Stay tuned!
